Goals
I have always been terrible at upkeeping a blog or even a private journal. My new goal is to blog every other day or at least 3 times a week. I intend to blog something like how I chatter on Mastodon, just completely random stuff. If you want to follow me on Mastodon my handle is: @urbanhedgelady@mastodon.world I will literally talk about anything.
The most recent event in my life has been the car accident. On December 3rd I was rear ended just as I was about to turn left into my own driveway. This is the image of my husband's car. A 2012 Hyundai Genesis Sedan. He had bought it in 2017 when the car was 5 years old and had 83,000 miles on it. It was the closest my husband had ever come to owning a new luxury car.
I was driving home from picking my son up at work at 10:30 PM and slowed down on my street (blinker on) to make my left turn. The next thing I know is I hear a loud BOOM like a cannon going off and then I was spun around backwards into my driveway. The car behind me had hit me at full speed. We live on a Pet Semetary style road, where the speed limit is 55 MPH (88.5 kmh.)
I was still completely dazed when my husband ran out, my son exited the car (he only had a small shoulder injury from the seatbeltt) and called 911. The other driver was suddenly screaming and crying, "OH GOD!" Some people showed up and tried to calm him down. All I knew was that I had a sharp pain in the back of my head. My husband's car had anti-whiplash head-rests but because the car was set to his height (he's nearly a foot taller) I think they were ineffective with me. I was taken to the hospital in the ambulance, given nice painkillers and sent home an hour later.
I've since been dealing with the other motorists insurance. My car only had liabilty due to it's age, but I feel like the other insurance has been kind of jerking me around. They at least provided me with a rental, that will last 4 days after my settlement. No one has contacted me about my medical issues (ambulance ride, ER visit, doctor follow-up). Because of this I have PTSD. I don't want to drive unless I have to and won't pull into my driveway if there is a car behind me. I will pull over for them to pass. My husband's car's crumple zones worked great, no serious injuries other than my whiplash and PTSD. The car has since been picked up by the auto-auction company and I awaiting their offer of the ACV (actual cash value) of the car. The do no offer a replacement value (which sucks, because I did NOTHING to have my car damaged and taken away from me.) I'm not talking a new, new car either. I would rather have my own car back, or another car of the same make, model, and miles.
